Vince Gilligan leads the creative session and we establish together what role music, sound effects and ADR (additional dialogue recording) will play in the episode. This group includes show runner Vince Gilligan, exec producers Michelle MacLaren and Melissa Bernstein, editors Kelley Dixon and Skip MacDonald (dependent on episode), post-production producers Diane Mercer and Andrew Ortner, sound editor Nick Forshager, ADR supervisor Kathryn Madsen, composer Dave Porter, music editor Jason Newman and myself. ![]() Once picture for an episode has been locked (no additional editing needed), members of the Breaking Bad team meet together for a ‘spotting session’. Most importantly, we try to always stay true to the characters, stay true to their culture, and remain faithful to the Breaking Bad world we've created. Sometimes we use music to play counterpoint to the on-screen action and other times it subtly supports it. There are times when we use music as a relief from the heaviness of the story, or as an opportunity to support time-compression montages as we illustrate the cooking process. With Breaking Bad, our approach to music supervision begins and ends with characters and story. He turns to a life of crime - hence the show's name - producing and selling methamphetamine with a former student, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), with the aim of securing his family's financial future before he dies. Set and produced in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Breaking Bad is the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer at the beginning of the series. This mix was recorded live at Sisters on November 5, 2016.Breaking Bad is an American television drama series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. The summer months sees MKL juggle a busy schedule of high end private bookings in the Hamptons & NYC, where he has recently spun at Cipriani and Skylark. When at home he spins at some of the hottest nightspots in the Big Apple including Output, Cielo and Le Bain. Recent ports of calls for the musical wanderer have included Japan, France, Moscow and Tulum. When not in the studio MKL has been busy playing his trade behind the turntables both internationally and domestically. MKL’s newest release, “Forever Love” is indicative of his emerging sound, blending deep house, techno and infectious chord progressions. “We’re a progressive label for progressive music of all genres.” Tastemakers at major record labels soon became of MKL’s abilities which in turn have led to remixes for John Legend (“Green Light”). “The goal is to bring different musical communities together under one banner and, in the process, increase the global awareness of Lion1Music,” explains MKL. “Seven Times” – Lion1Music’s first release in 2004 – was a 12” that blended future jazz and deep house and utilized the production chemistry that had developed between Michael Lopez and Herman Pearl. “Slavery Days” got over ten licensing agreements and was included on the highly influential “ Body & Soul Vol. Shortly after that, the 3 Generations team worked on “Slavery Days” out Spiritual Life Music, a label that combined world music and soulful house. ![]() The pair’s debut, Skin, was released on Buddah Bar, At the same time, the duo began releasing remixes and MKL’s first contribution to Wave Music – the celebrated label founded by the legendary Francois K – was remixing Calm’s “People From The Earth & The Sun” with Soy Sos, which was released on a single alongside a remix from Dixon.
